As 2023 comes to a close, it’s time to reflect and this past year has been one that has seen humanity take a step backwards. The civil in civilization has disappeared. 

In an era where the fabric of our society is constantly being tested, we find ourselves at a crossroads. The power of dialogue and understanding seems to have faded, replaced by a culture of instant judgment and dismissal. This phenomenon, widely known as 'cancel culture,' has permeated our lives, influencing how we interact with each other and our institutions. But it begs the question: have we lost the art of conversation and compromise? Have we forgotten the strength that lies in unity and constructive criticism?

Whatever happened to our society that we have become unable to identify a problem, call it out, address it, and fix it, instead of cancelling it? Since when did we become so unintelligent and/or fragile or simply grossly righteous? It can take many decades to build meaningful institutions, systems, companies, etc. Is it really necessary to burn them down to 'fix' them when something is broken...or simply deemed 'broken' by a select few who disagree or have a non-disclosed agenda? Burning down anything - or cancelling it - without acknowledging all the good they are eliminating are failing us all.

Everyone, everywhere is now subject to this insanity and should re-evaluate the damage this can do. Instead, let's work with one another to find solutions, to OFFER solutions and maybe even help enact them. Yes, of course let's also call out bad behaviors and voice our concerns and disagreements, but can we do so in the spirit of resolving these issues instead of destroying?

As we navigate these turbulent times, it's crucial to remember that the strength of a society lies in its ability to adapt, learn, and grow together. Let us not be quick to dismantle what has taken years to build but instead strive to improve and enhance. By embracing empathy and constructive dialogue, we can pave a way towards a more understanding and resilient society. A society where differences are not just tolerated but valued, where conversations lead to solutions, and where every voice contributes to the symphony of progress. Together, we can turn the tide from canceling to cultivating - a future that cherishes growth over division, understanding over judgment, and unity over discord.
